Nostalgia Critic Megamind Review

It hasn't hit the mainpage yet, but Nostalgia Critic's Dreamworks-uary revew of "Megamind" is up on his blip.tv account.

His overall impression? "Eh".

He wasn't as hard on it as he was on films like "Shark Tale", but his main complaint was that it didn't mix things up enough to be original (Roxanne still ended up the damsel at the end), and for being billed as an action-comedy, it wasn't as funny or action-packed as other Dreamworks films. He did really like the Megamind/Roxanne relationship, though, and noted that even though the bulk of the movie is just characters talking to each other rather than action, he enjoyed the conversations and was invested in the characters. Even though I love the movie myself, I think his complaints are fair. Hopefully some of his viewers will still be curious to see it after watching his review.

I agree. Having never been a fan of happy endings when you watch the movie you actually root for the pair and for the ending it received.

Some criticism I DO have however is I WOULD have liked to have seen more of the two together either during the movie or after the ceremony in the end. Maybe we could have seen little snapshot pictures of the two of them joking around while cleaning up the city, going on dates, him saving her, her save him, hanging out with Minion and Metro Man at a bar-b-que or something. It's actually one of the few movies where I don't think there was ENOUGH of it.

But, it's minor and I am happy with how the film came out in the long run and I'm glad Critic didn't go haywire on it.

I was the first to see it and to be honest....I had no problems with the review - I liked it.

Doug has a weird way of summarizing things he watches. Sometimes it's just a detail off here but I think with Megamind it was really wrong? And I laughed and was like, "did you really watch it?"

My friend and I were joking that he was probably busy with something while Megamind was on or something.

But overall his review was fair. He made good points, especially when he talked about the end. It would've been interesting to switch it up and have Roxanne save Megamind. But at the same time she kinda already did? Idk rambling lol.

I felt the same as nikki. I was watching it with a friend and kept throwing in my two bits, hehe. But honestly, I think he missed some of the point of the movie, like he wasn't fully paying attention. I think that would have changed a few of his gripes, but other than that I was at least pleased he didn't give it a bad review. He was right about a lot of things.

I think Doug, and I like his reviews, was too focused on this needing more comedy (and to be honest I found Shrek too grating with it's constant 'jokes' and the same with Kung Fu Panda)and seemed to miss a major point of the film. Unlike his own reviews which can get pretty caustic, this is more of a mixture of familiar tropes used to show the absurdities of the comic genre in a way that makes some sense.

Also in a way Megamind was the damsel and Roxanne was the hero, Megamind (and to a degree Metro Man) were both prisoners of what other people thought of them (or Fate as Megamind called it), they were helpless to be anything other than what everyone else thought they could be, and it wasn't until Roxanne pulled Megamind out of that victim mindset was he able to lead and choose what role he wanted to be. Plot-wise, I don't think letting Roxanne getting powers would have let Megamind grow, as he'd have his hero back only if Roxanne wanted to play and would not get a chance to find something other than himself to care about and discover his inner hero.

Also a side rant, why is it we need to show strengh only by how much charater A can beat up charater B? Why can't the non-action people get credit for their actions just because it isn't directly hitting/firing back at other people? (really like the commenter pointing out that all things considered Roxanne was the bravest person in the film.)
